A Day at Kebun Joglo

by Michiko Mora

On September 14th, 2023 Our team had an adventure to Kebun Joglo. Kebun Joglo is located at Pondok Aren, Banten. At Kebun Joglo, we were surrounded by plants, and it was refreshing. The peaceful atmosphere was enchanting and a perfect relaxing getaway.

Our day at Kebun Joglo began with warm and welcoming greetings from Ka Nabil. He took us on tour to see every inch of the building, trees and plants there. But the highlight tree in Kebun Joglo is the cocoa tree. Yes! A cocoa tree growing in a busy city at Bintaro was very unexpected. Ka Nabil even climbed the cocoa tree to pick a cocoa fruit for us to try. We also showed how chocolate bars were usually made. We even had a cocoa ceremony.

Around after school time, there were a lot of students from around the place who came to play at Kebun Joglo. Ka Nabil said this place is made for them to play and learn together, and it’s their daily things to visit and hangout after school at Kebun Joglo. They were very nice and we had a lot of fun.

First, we played a puzzle made out of recycled bottle caps that we brought. One of the children named Okta enjoyed it very well, he likes puzzles a lot! After playing the puzzle we shared our hobbies, favorite subject at school, favorite songs, and we sang some of our favorite songs with a guitar. Then, we learn how to make a wallet made from upcycle plastic waste. They are a very quick learner and enthusiast to make the wallet. We also put some personal touch by decorated the wallet with flowers and leaves. By the end of our adventure, some of our new friends gave a letter and some exchanged phone numbers to keep in touch.

Our day at Kebun Joglo was definitely a memorable experience. It was a reminder of the importance of community and shared learning. We made new friends and gained knowledge from sharing. We believe our experience at Kebun Joglo is also a step to create a more sustainable and connected world. As we bid farewell to our new friends, we felt thankful and inspired to continue our mission of making the world greener and more sustainable.
