Plasti(c)ity Tree

Plasti(c)ity Tree was made from the collaboration of Universitas Multimedia Nusantara Architecture Department, Matra Studio, Mortier, and Wings Group. Plasti(c)ity Tree was shown at Jakarta Architecture Festival 2023. In this collaboration Plasti(c)ity Tree saved 200 kg plastic waste made into a beautiful art piece that can be enjoyed by everyone.

The concept of Plasti(c)ity Tree is to symbolize the transition from Jakarta as the capital city to the future capital of Nusantara (IKN). The tree means it will continue to grow and face many challenges ahead.

Plasti(c)ty Tree designed by Matra Studio collaboration with Universitas Multimedia Nusantara, with the help of 18 students from Architecture Department, 200 kg LDPE plastic wastes are from Yayasan Wings Peduli, and Mortier were in charge on pressing the LDPE plastic into upcycled plastic sheets.

Rizki Siregar, the founder of Matra Studio and a lecturer at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara, and Mendy Laoda, the founder of Mortier, also shared an inspiring insights on exploring the sustainable materials. Rizki and Mendy also shared the process of making fascinating public installations from upcycled materials using digital fabrication techniques.

This collaboration has goals and hopes that can inspire people to step into sustainable life and work together to face the challenges that may lay ahead.
